Getting started: your first character
Choose a class, understand Mana and skill levels, find upgrades, and plan your first rune slots.
1. Choose a class
Read the class comparison, then open a class hub. Each class has 14 skills and a different primary stat. Look at targeting, resources, and effects rather than treating one damage percentage as a class ranking.
2. Learn the attack cycle
Basic Attacks generate Mana and attack at your weapon speed. Strong Attacks and Specials have their own resource and cooldown rules. Open a skill from your class hub and use its preview at skill level 1 to understand a new character, or skill level 10 to inspect the base cap. The unlock requirement is a character level, not a skill level.
3. Follow progression and find upgrades
Browse world maps for enemy levels and prerequisites. An enemy page lists its encounter locations and special drops; an item page leads back to the enemy, gathering location, fishing spot, or crafting recipe. A listed encounter is possible, not guaranteed each run.
Open equipment, filter by your class, slot, and rarity, then use the item level input on a detail page to see roll ranges. Universal gear remains included in a specific class filter.
4. Connect your build
Use your class hub to connect skills to talents and rune sets. Rune slots unlock at character levels 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65. Rune levels cap at 6, separately from skill levels. Check set piece counts and affected skills before swapping runes.
For crafting, socketing, and upgrades, follow the crafting guide. For progression caps and offline rewards, see leveling and offline progress.
Rune bonus ranks and the cap
Learned base rank caps at 10. Effective skill level is max(1, learned rank + bonuses to this skill + bonuses to all skills). The effective-level calculation has no upper cap at 10.
Example: Trapper’s Legacy I grants Poison Trap 4 + floor(rune level / 3) bonus ranks. With learned rank 10, rune level 1 gives 10 + 4 = 14; rune level 3 gives 10 + 5 = 15; rune level 6 gives 10 + 6 = 16. Other equipped bonuses add to this result.
Verification: installed snapshot 1.0.3. This has not been measured in a live player profile. Wiki previews display unmodified base ranks 1–10, not rune-enhanced damage at effective rank 14–16.
